Youth Work and Youth Activism on Rab
ABOUT ACTIVITY
In order to promote youth work and youth activism on Croatian islands, together with our partners from the Association Filmaktiv, we visited Rab, where we were hosted by the Association for Children and Youth "Kocka." Our colleague Sara held a workshop for youth workers on March 25th, 2023, and another one for young people on March 26th, 2023.
Youth workers are superheroes
"Youth work is based on values and responds to the needs of young people and the local community," stated the participants of the workshop on youth work. Through interactive and introspective activities, we discussed the importance of youth work on the islands, the principles of youth work, and the competencies of youth workers. One participant described the workshop as "relaxed, educational, applicable, fun,". Another one pointed out: "Education and socializing, getting to know oneself better, getting to know other people, and young people on Rab."
Young people on Rab detected a lack of health services
We talked to students from the Markantun de Dominis Rab High School about activism and video activism. Through fieldwork and the photovoice method, high school students identified the problems faced by young people on the island of Rab. They then chose one problem that would be the topic of their first film, which they will start shooting on the weekend of April 1st and April 2nd, 2023. The group will work on script development, sound, cinematography, and editing, and their mentor will be a young director Bela Bračko-Milešević.
The project “Islands” is carried out by the Association Filmaktiv and Delta. The project is financed by the Central State Office for Demography and Youth.
