“Take Action!” was created in 2015 as a new adaptation of the project "Think globally, act locally", which was continuously held in Rijeka for 10 years. The project aims to provide an opportunity for young people between the ages of 14 and 19 to develop competencies for active participation in decision-making processes at the local level.
The main objectives of “Take Action!” are to increase active participation of young people at local level and to develop meaningful cooperation between young people and decision-makers and representatives of institutions, since their relationship is often characterised by a lack of trust. Through their involvement, young people have the opportunity to develop and improve their social and civic competences, as well as their entrepreneurial and soft skills.
The central event is a one-day simulation of a City Council meeting (debate, decision-making), preceded by a series of activities in which groups of high school students develop their unique project ideas on a given topic. Throughout the day, they detect the needs of their target group, design activities and prepare the budget. The group whose project gets chosen has the opportunity to implement it in the local community with the financial support of 663,00 EUR provided by the City of Rijeka, and with the mentor support of Delta’s employees.
The project is implemented by Association Delta and the City of Rijeka, and funded by the City of Rijeka.
