Research Report on Youth Councils / Youth Advisory Boards in Croatia

ABOUT PUBLICATION

As part of the project "Youth Councils - What's Next?", we researched the experiences and needs of youth councils and representatives of local and regional self-government units. You can find the Croatian version of the report on this page. Through the research, we analysed the current context and needs of youth councils, as well as cities, municipalities, and counties. This is the first such research in Croatia.

In the preparation phase, a working group was established, including representatives of the target groups in addition to project partners. A total of 194 representatives of local and regional self-government units and 200 members of youth councils responded to the anonymous questionnaire. Twenty current or former members of youth councils participated in four focus groups. Additionally, the analysis covered 13 work programs of youth councils for the year 2023.

The conclusions of the research will be used to improve existing training for youth councils, as well as to develop proposals and guidelines for ensuring the quality work of youth councils and the participation of young people in decision-making.

The research was conducted as part of the project "Youth Councils - What's Next?" aimed at strengthening the advocacy position of civil society organisations and empowering meaningful youth participation in advisory bodies at the local and regional levels. The project is implemented in partnership with the Norwegian Municipality of Lindesnes, the Association Delta, the Association of Cities in the Republic of Croatia, and Info zona as the project leader.

The project "Youth Councils - What's Next?" is supported through the Active Citizenship Fund, funded by Iceland, Liechtenstein, and Norway under the EEA Grants.
