MODUS – Civil Society and the Public Sector Supporting Civic Education

The main objective of the project is to strengthen the democratic culture, civic awareness and civic engagement in Croatia through the establishment of a systematic cross-sectoral cooperation model between educational institutions and civil society organizations that will contribute to the implementation of civic education. Specific objectives include:

  • increasing the quality of civic education,
  • strengthening the cross-sector cooperation in its implementation.

The objectives will be achieved through the following activities: research on the needs of the target groups, education of the target groups, development of a new Model of cooperation between educational institutions and CSOs, pilot implementation of the Model in Istria, Primorje-Gorski Kotar, and Osijek-Baranja counties, and publishing and dissemination.

The main target groups are elementary and high school teaching staff, CSO employees and elementary and high school students. The teaching staff will benefit from a better connection with the community and will be able to meet certain needs in the implementation of CE. The CSOs will strengthen their visibility and influence in the community and build capacities to further promote CE. The students will be empowered for participatory lesson planning, as well as active participation in their local communities.

The project will be carried out from 1/12/2020 to 30/6/2023. 

The project consortium includes Association Delta, Centre for Civil Initiatives Poreč, and Association Breza from Croatia, and Human Rights Academy from Norway. The project is funded with € 135.000,00, through the financial support of Island, Lihtenstein and Norway as part of European Economic Area and Norway grants. The project is co-financed by the Office for Cooperation with NGOs of the Republic of Croatia.
