An environment without fast fashion

ABOUT ACTIVITY

On Monday, January 16th, we held a workshop on sustainable fashion for 21 upper elementary school students in Zamet elementary school who are the participants of the extracurricular civic education program.

The students discussed the definition of sustainable development, as well as several examples from everyday life about the importance of environmental protection and fair economy and society. Then our interns Ana Marija and Katarina from the Department of Pedagogy at the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences in Rijeka touched upon the problem of fast fashion. After analyzing the labels on their own clothes, the students began planning for ways they can decrease the impact of fast fashion on the environment, as well as change their own shopping and up-keeping habits when it comes to clothes.

Students have shown that they want to change the fast fashion trend, they are aware of the fact that the fashion industry is the second largest contributor to environmental pollution, and they are able to understand how their actions impact the environment.

The workshop with the students was conducted in cooperation with teacher Nina Cuculić as part of the project „MODUS - civil society and the public sector supporting civic education” in which we are partnering with the Center for Civil Initiatives Poreč, Breza Association and the Human Rights Academy from Norway. The project is funded with € 135.000,00, through the financial support of Island, Lihtenstein and Norway as part of European Economic Area and Norway grants. The project is co-financed by the Office for Cooperation with NGOs of the Republic of Croatia.
