Watch Out the Youth 2: Celebration Day Marked Achievements and Connected Youth Organisations in Pazin
ABOUT ACTIVITY
On Wednesday, May 17th, 2023, a special day dedicated to young people was held in Pazin - Celebration Day! This event was an opportunity to mark the culmination of the project “Watch Out the Youth 2”, and to celebrate and pay tribute to the results of the student project implemented through the activity "Take Action!". “Watch Out the Youth 2” resulted in the first Local Youth Program of the City of Pazin for 2023-2027, further connecting all youth organisations, institutions, and the City administration.
Take Action! encouraged young people to manage youth spaces in Pazin
The students who won first place during the “Take Action!” activity in February presented impressive results of their work. In collaboration with the Open University of Pazin, they transformed the space of the Memorial Home in Pazin and organised three different activities. A pub quiz attracted participants from Pula and Poreč, briskula (a card game) was played with numerous decks of cards, and a chess tournament brought together passionate players. These young people worked diligently together, dedicating their free time, and were surprised by the community's support, and inspired for future projects.
Using the World Café method, students shared their experiences from "Take Action!" and the process of creating the Local Youth Program of the City of Pazin with other participants, including guests from the Youth Council of Otočac. A video about “Take Action!” was also shown, which you can watch here (CLICK).
Pazin stands out as an example of good practice in working with youth
The panel discussion focused on the future of working with youth in Pazin. Students Ana and Mia emphasized that youth are not apolitical - they know what they want but often do not know who to turn to and how. Mayor Suzana Jašić highlighted four ways in which youth can participate in monitoring and implementing the Local Youth Program: through individual actions, informal civic initiatives, associations, and political action. She emphasized the crucial role of the Youth Council of the City of Pazin and called on young people to be (pro)active. Petra Pekica, director of the Development Agency Heart of Istria, emphasized the importance of collaboration between sectors and involving youth in all institutions addressing their needs. Advisor for education and youth, Anton Finderle, concluded that Pazin has created a true support network for youth and youth work, representing an example of good practice: "Pazin is the best of everything."
The project is co-funded by the Erasmus+ programme of the European Union (KA 154 - Youth Participation Activities).
